HISTORY
Established in 1923, Abilene Christian University chartered the Student Government Association (SGA) with students’ interests, ideas, and experiences in mind. Since then, SGA has adopted a Constitution, Bylaws, and Rules of Order to ensure a balance of power among the three branches of government: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. This is a small-scale representation of what the United States government is set up to be so that SGA can be most effective.
THE CONSTITUTION'S PREAMBLE READS:
“We, the undergraduate student body of Abilene Christian University, in order to provide an atmosphere for students to grow spiritually, academically, and socially, to promote the interests of the student body to the administration of the University, and to engage, equip, and empower the student body, do ordain and establish this Constitution.”
The Preamble begins SGA’s Constitution with the mission and purpose of the Student Government Association to remind whoever assumes power the “why” behind this student-run organization
THE PRESIDENT'S BIBLE
Cover of the 100+ year old Bible.
There are two different "President's Bibles" –one that has been passed down at every graduation commencement ceremony and one that resides in the President's office throughout the entirety of their term. The "official" Bible, dating back to May 1924, is kept in storage in the Administration Building and holds the signatures of every Student Body President since the establishment of the organization.
The other "less official" pass-down Bible began in the spring of 1996, and has personal messages and highlighted verses from each president to encourage the next president-elect in their endeavors and goals.
